What does the lively Costa Georgiadis and a new community group in Geelong have in common? They are both passionate about growing veggies, developing sustainable practices and lifestyles, promoting health and wellbeing, engaging with the community and having fun.
I am referring to Ashby Community Garden Inc., whose Working Group comprises an enthusiastic array of residents beavering away to make their dream come true – a new community garden in the Geelong West/North Geelong area.
Exciting announcement – Tom Hawkins of the Geelong Cats and The Geelong Football Club have created a video entitled ‘Staying Geelong Strong’ for the Humans in Geelong Online Expo 2020 featuring the many ways they support community.

Liz Bonner is the Manager of Cloverdale Community Centre in Corio, Geelong. Cloverdale is one of 400 Neighbourhood Houses across Victoria that provide an inclusive space for community to connect, learn and feel supported. It’s a place where locals can contribute to, and participate in, community-led programs and recreational activities, as well as gain new skills.

With her own blog, YouTube series and several successful art exhibitions, Jacklyn Foster is truly a Geelong next-gen artist. Her passion is painting, creating abstract visual delights with acrylic paint on canvas. But her talents have recently piqued the interest of businesses keen to commission her designs for other projects such as larger scale murals to beautify tired buildings, and enliven the style of yoga mats!
Jacklyn’s story is one to consider, especially for those of us who may have got side-tracked in life, or followed someone else’s idea of success, either deliberately, or unconsciously, setting aside our passions.
Growing up in Mildura, Jacklyn was DUX of Visual Communication, Studio Arts and Art at high school, so it seemed an obvious choice to move to Geelong and study Occupational Therapy, right? Amazingly, despite her natural artistic talents, this is exactly what she did!

Geelong Sustainability has embraced digital technologies for this year’s Sustainable House Day. Over three weekends there will be zoominars of live virtual sustainable house presentations and Q&A sessions with homeowners and sustainability experts (October 10 & 11) and the following two Saturdays (Oct 24 & 31) log into 40 speed dates via Zoom where people can get advice from a range of subject matter experts. In 2016, Adam Stan was two years into his new-found passion for photography, when he came across a vast artwork etched into the sand at Barwon Heads. When he viewed photos taken of the swirling sand art from his drone camera, he was blown away.
“I posted the photo on an Ocean Grove community page and asked if anybody knew about it,” Adam says.
The artist, Ed, from @Breathablueocean, made contact with Adam. It was the first time Ed had seen his elaborate sand art from the air.
