Imagine a place where you feel welcome, listened to and valued – The Listening Lounge operates from the upper section of Corio Central, and is open from 11am to 3pm Monday to Thursday. It is a not-for-profit organisation dependent on volunteers from local churches and the wider community. Rev Peter Jewell is the paid co-ordinator, and is regularly in attendance to offer pastoral care to visitors and volunteers when needed. The Listening Lounge is proudly celebrating its 20th Birthday on September 11th.
Our Aim
At the Listening Lounge our aim is to offer friendship, a listening ear, a cuppa and a place to relax, rest and socialize. We do not provide professional counselling but we can give assistance in locating help if it is required.
Our Values
At the Listening Lounge we seek to place a strong value on:
Respecting each other
Encouraging one another
Accepting each other
Listening to each other
In line with our REAL values we discourage language, conversations and behaviour that are damaging or disrespectful to the Listening Lounge community.
Who are our volunteers?
Our volunteers are drawn from amongst our local churches and community.
Their task is to serve lounge users and to provide to the best of their ability a positive, safe and respectful place for everyone to enjoy.
Who can use the Listening Lounge?
The Listening Lounge is open to all people who desire a place to rest, relax and socialize, and who are:
- Willing to embrace the Lounge’s values of RESPECT, ENCOURAGEMENT, ACCEPTANCE and POSITIVE LISTENING.
- Willing to follow any reasonable directions given by the Lounge’s co-ordinators and volunteers.
Who sponsors the Listening Lounge?
The Listening Lounge is sponsored and supported by Centre Management and the Uniting Church, with support from other Christian Churches in the area.
